On Friday 25th October Mangorei School had their annual Pets Day, but because of the bad weather the students could not bring their lambs or calves for judging. The stalls planned for the afternoon also had to be cancelled because of the weather. Fortunately we were able to have the cancelled events the following Tuesday and everyone was able to enjoy one of Mangorei's favourite events. Everybody enjoyed looking at the animals and petting them, watching the police dog exhibition and joining in with the games and stalls. It was the first time in Pets Day history that bad weather had caused the day to be split.

Room 8's Letters From The First Immigrants of New Zealand
Last term Room 8 studied New Zealand's 'first ships'. They read a book in class about New Zealand's early immigrants called "No-one Went to Town", by Phyllis Johnston. They wrote letters pretending to be immigrants sailing to New Zealand which told about life onboard the ship and what they thought New Zealand would be like. School Cross Country
On Monday 2nd September Mangorei School had their School Cross Country. Once again we were lucky enough to have permission to use Mrs Burr's farm, which gives the event a real country feel and the runners some real challenges. The whole school participated and every student tried their best. The track was hard and it was a challenge to every student. The result was excellent. Mangahamoe got the most points for cheering but all of the houses were good at supporting other house members. We sat in our house groups and got points for cheering for our team mates. The senior leadership was amazing and the juniors behaved brilliantly. Everyone enjoyed the day.
Here are some pictures of the students racing and the house groups!

2013 year 7&8 Interschool Sports
During term 3 the year 7&8 students participated in interschool sports. The sports played were netball, soccer and rugby. The most recent game played was against Oakura. Sadly the netball and soccer lost but the rugby had a great game and won! After they had finished they had a lovely morning tea prepared for them by Ella, Grace, Dania and Tayla. Smiles all round! :)

Junior visit to Pioneer Village
During August the junior school pupils went for a visit to Pioneer Village as they had been studying about what life was like in the 1800's. While they were there they got to dress up in clothes that look like clothes from the olden days. They even got to work in a classroom using slates. It looks like the juniors had lots of fun!

Planting Outside Room 4
In August the Enviro group was busy once again. They designed and planted a garden in the planting boxes in the Room 4 courtyard. They included a variety of plants such as strawberries, pizza thyme, italian parsley, afro parsley and pansies. The enviro group are so fortunate to be helped out by grandparents with expert knowledge. Thanks to Mr Goodey and Mr and Mrs Cooper for their help with this project. These are a couple of photos from the planting in the courtyard.
